Signature equestrian events

Camden’s equestrian calendar is one of the richest in the Southeast. These are the events that define the year in horse country.

Spring — Late March

The Carolina Cup

Camden’s most iconic event. Over 30,000 fans gather at Springdale Race Course each spring for world-class steeplechase racing, Southern fashion, and legendary tailgating. First run in 1930, it holds the National Steeplechase Association’s all-time attendance record of 71,000. A true rite of spring in South Carolina.

Fall — November

The Colonial Cup

The fall counterpart to the Carolina Cup — a Grade 1 stakes steeplechase and the first international steeplechase ever held in the United States. Introduced in 1970 by Mrs. Marion duPont Scott, the Colonial Cup draws serious racing fans in a more intimate, family-friendly atmosphere at historic Springdale Race Course.

Fall — September

Camden Horse & Hound

A two-day exhibition weekend at Springdale featuring live demonstrations across dressage, western riding, jumping, agility, herding, and working-dog exhibitions. Paired with a curated vendor marketplace, family activities, and live entertainment. Designed to welcome a new generation to equestrian life in Camden.

October — March

Camden Hunt Season

The Camden Hunt — the second-oldest hunt in South Carolina, recognized since 1926 — opens its formal season on Thanksgiving Day with the traditional Blessing of the Hounds. The 2025–2026 season marked the hunt’s historic 100th anniversary.

Year-Round

SC Equine Park Shows

Camden’s 60-acre SC Equine Park hosts competitions nearly every month — hunter/jumper, cutting, reining, dressage, quarter horse, paint horse, IEA youth shows, and more. With 280 stalls and three competition rings, it’s one of the premier equine facilities in the Southeast. Admission to watch is always free.

Spring — April

Camden Charity Polo Cup

A beloved spring tradition bringing polo back to Camden with a charitable purpose. Great on-field competition paired with an upscale tailgate atmosphere — a community favorite drawing spectators from across the Midlands and beyond each April.

Equestrian real estate in Camden & Kershaw County

Owning a horse property in Camden means more than having land — it means joining one of the most vibrant equestrian communities in the Southeast. Camden and the surrounding Kershaw County area offer some of the most desirable horse properties in South Carolina: from working horse farms and hunt-country estates to smaller acreage properties perfect for a personal stable.

Properties in Camden’s Hunt Country corridor — many within hacking distance of Springdale Race Course and the Camden Hunt’s territory — are among the most sought-after in the region. Whether you need a full training facility or simply a few acres with room to ride, the market here offers options at a wide range of price points.

The equestrian property market in Camden is unlike most markets in South Carolina. Buyers here tend to be knowledgeable and specific about their needs — drainage, fencing, barn configuration, ring footing, hack access, and zoning all matter. The Montgomery & Moore team understands these priorities firsthand.

What to look for in a Camden horse property:

  • Acreage appropriate for the number of horses
  • Barn, stable, or run-in shed condition
  • Pasture drainage and footing quality
  • Riding ring or room to build one
  • Proximity to Springdale and hunt territory
  • Fencing type and condition
  • Water supply — well capacity & waterers
  • Trail access and hack-out options
  • Zoning for agricultural or equine use
  • Hay storage and feed room

Hannah and the Montgomery & Moore team can walk you through all of these considerations and connect you with the right properties, including off-market opportunities, in the Camden area.
