Camden’s social scene

There’s more to Camden than meets the eye

Ask anyone who’s moved to Camden from a bigger city and they’ll tell you the same thing — they were surprised. Surprised by the quality of the restaurants, the energy on Broad Street on a Friday night, and the sheer number of community events packed into a town of around 7,000 people.

Camden punches well above its weight when it comes to nightlife and entertainment. The downtown corridor along Broad Street has seen a genuine renaissance in recent years, anchored by Greener Pastures Brewing Co., Broad & Vine, and Plum’s — all within a short walk of each other. Add in the waterfront scene at Lake Wateree, the Town Green concert series, and an annual festival calendar that rivals towns three times Camden’s size, and you’ve got a social life that most people don’t expect to find in the Kershaw County seat.

As someone who lives and works here, I’ll keep this page updated with what’s worth knowing about — the events, the spots, and the local intel that doesn’t always make it onto TripAdvisor.

“Camden is a place where you can grab a craft beer from a locally owned brewery, catch a free outdoor concert, walk to dinner at a wine bar, and still be home before midnight. That’s a quality of life you can’t put a price tag on.”

Annual festivals & signature events

Camden’s event calendar is one of the most active in the Midlands. These are the festivals and events that bring the whole community out year after year.

March — Day Before the Carolina Cup

CupFest

Brand new in 2026 and already a standout event — CupFest takes over downtown Camden the day before the Carolina Cup with free admission, two live music stages, a classic car cruise-in, a kid zone, arcade games, mini golf, food trucks, and street vendors. The 2026 headliner was the legendary Mother’s Finest on the main stage at Broad and Rutledge Streets. A free shuttle runs from Camden City Arena all day.

Tripp’s tip: Arrive by noon to catch the local acts on the South Stage at Greener Pastures before the main stage lights up at 6 PM.
March — Multi-Week Celebration

Irish Fest Camden

A vibrant Celtic heritage festival that has grown into one of Camden’s most beloved events since its founding in 2017. The 2026 edition marked its 10th anniversary with a packed schedule: the Miss Irish Fest pageant in January, a bagpipe rock concert at the Arts Center of Kershaw County in February (featuring the Red Hot Chilli Pipers), a live Celtic music night at Greener Pastures Brewing in March, and the main festival day on the Town Green with the Lucky Leprechaun 5K.

Tripp’s tip: The “Pub in the Pasture” night at Greener Pastures is the locals’ favorite — Celtic music, cold beer, and a much more intimate crowd than the main day.
Spring & Fall — Select Thursdays

Blankets & Bands

Camden’s beloved free outdoor concert series, held on select Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 PM on the Town Green in downtown Camden. A partnership between the Downtown Camden Cultural District and the Arts Center of Kershaw County, the series brings a variety of local and regional acts to the green. Bring a blanket or lawn chair — beer and wine are allowed, no glass containers. The 2026 spring lineup included The Esquires, Phil James and the Fast Lane, Nigel Grant & Friends, and Landslide.

Tripp’s tip: Completely free, family-friendly, and the best way to spend a Camden Thursday evening. Check experiencecamdensc.com for the full schedule each season.
May — Annual

“Where I’m From” Festival

An annual singer-songwriter music festival held on the Town Green, now in its 5th year. The 2026 edition featured Patrick Davis & His Midnight Choir with special guests Levi Lowrey, Seth Walker, and Lauren Jenkins. VIP tickets include a signed limited edition poster, VIP seating, two drink tickets, and a lanyard. Music begins at 5:30 PM with the headliner taking the stage at 8:00 PM. A rain-or-shine event with a dedicated Camden following.

Tripp’s tip: Grab VIP if you can — the signed poster alone is worth it. Arrive early for a good spot on the green.
May

Jim Smith Memorial Rodeo

An annual rodeo held at the Antioch Community Center & Outlaw Arena in Camden. A beloved Kershaw County tradition that draws a big crowd every spring — bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, and all the classic rodeo events in a great outdoor arena atmosphere. One of those uniquely South Carolina evenings that reminds you why you chose small-town life.

Tripp’s tip: A fantastic family night out. Bring the kids and get there early for a good seat.
June — Annual

Juneteenth Celebration

Camden’s annual Juneteenth celebration — now in its 6th year in 2026 — is held at Camden City Arena and features live music, food, community vendors, and family activities. A meaningful community event that reflects Camden’s rich and complex history as one of South Carolina’s oldest cities. Free to attend.

Tripp’s tip: A wonderful event that brings the whole community together. Free admission — go support it.
November — Annual

Battle of Camden BBQ Festival

A fall festival celebrating one of the most significant Revolutionary War battles fought on South Carolina soil. The event combines history, competition BBQ, and community fun in a setting that is uniquely Camden. Held over a full weekend in November and one of the highest-attended events on the fall calendar.

Tripp’s tip: The BBQ alone is worth the trip. Come hungry.
Spring — Annual

Camden Junior Welfare League Wine Walk

Now in its second year, this popular evening event takes participants through downtown Camden for a guided stroll, sip, and savor experience through Camden’s best local venues. Great for date night or a girls’ night out. Tickets go fast — keep an eye on the CJWL for early registration.

Tripp’s tip: One of the fastest-growing events in town. Buy tickets the day they go on sale.

Insider knowledge

Tripp’s local tips for new residents

When clients ask me what Camden’s social life is actually like day-to-day, here’s what I tell them.

TM
From Tripp Montgomery
Managing Partner — Montgomery & Moore Real Estate
  • Greener Pastures Brewing has become the true community living room in Camden — any night of the week is a good night there. Their events calendar is worth bookmarking.
  • The Blankets & Bands Thursday evening series is genuinely one of the best things about living in Camden. Free, outdoors, great music, and a relaxed crowd that’s happy to be there. Don’t miss a single one.
  • Carolina Cup weekend is bigger than most people expect. Plan for it — the whole town comes alive and CupFest the night before is now a must-do.
  • The Lake Wateree scene at Camden on the Lake has completely changed the conversation about nightlife in this area. Well worth the short drive for a weekend evening.
  • Columbia is only 30 minutes away and has the Township Auditorium, the Colonial Life Arena, and a full city entertainment scene for bigger concert nights.
  • The Arts Center of Kershaw County puts on consistently excellent performances and events year-round — from live theater to visiting musicians. It’s under-appreciated and worth supporting.
  • If you’re new to Camden and want to get to know people quickly, showing up to community events is the fastest way. This is still a town where people introduce themselves.
Thinking about making Camden home?

This is just a taste of what daily life looks like here. I’d love to show you around — the neighborhoods, the properties, and yes, the best spot for a Friday evening on Broad Street.
